The Science of Scale Fluctuations (cont.)

bear-weight-scale

(This is a continuation of the first part. You can find it here.)

Weight Loss isn’t Linear

Like I stated before there are so many ways you can change the course of your weigh-ins. Unless you eat the exact same thing every day and do the exact same things, in the same city, and moving at the same pace, you are going to land at a different point from day to day.

If looking for change then you have to watch the overall pattern to understand where you are really falling. That is of course, if you think the scale should matter in the first place. That is a different story though isn’t it?

The problem is that weight loss isn’t linear. Fat loss has shown to be more linear, but weight loss isn’t at all. What this means is that weight loss hardly ever has constant downward progression. There are usually two main determining factors for this. Continue Reading…

The Science of Scale Fluctuations

scale-balance

I have had the pleasure of training and consulting some of the strongest people in the world. Actors, doctors, coaches, athletes, government leaders, models, etc. These are people who can train for hours at a time. They spent years in school studying to better themselves and some run our lives with the decisions they make.

Put these leaders, these champions on a scale, and if that scale doesn’t say what they want it to, they will weep before your eyes. I have held a 6’2 and 230lb pure muscled man in my arms as he wept. All because of the scale. Continue Reading…

Clean House

This week I literally cleaned house. I tore through my entire house and it took 3 days all total.

There is something about cleaning your house that automatically sets you up for taking stock of where you are at.  I had to do this big time. All of a sudden I was hit with the changes that I made in my life. Changes that I thought were a conscious decision, but instead they were a reaction to life.

I didn’t choose this job, the job chose me. Not to long ago I was traveling, playing music, and trying to figure out if I wanted a crown royal with coke or with ginger ale. These were my crucial decision. Now I spend sometimes 18 hour days absorbed in training clients, emails, research, and blog posts.

Slowly I am finding that balance. I am a bit of a extremist by nature, so balance in my personal life is a bit hard to do. Continue Reading…

The Ideal Woman

ideal-woman

This is a follow up to the post I put up about “Defining Bulky.

The discussion about the article was amazing. In a matter of 2 days it was linked to more sites than any other post I have ever made. It is going to be cited in a national magazine, and has brought out a massive support for the “bulky” crowd.  Feminist are angry, trainers are scratching their heads, and the discussion is running wild.

Let’s take a deeper look.

The Poll

A lot of people thought that the poll was biased. Let me explain why I chose the women I chose.

I did do a poll with bodybuilder women and it was an instant flop and thought to be too much. There is no need, in my opinion, to measure on that. I did a 2nd poll of with only 200 people surveyed and included Hilton, Alba, Biel, Jamie Eason, and a steroid bodybuilder female. Alba still came out on top and in that poll Hilton scored higher than Biel. I wondered if after seeing such an intense display of muscle if any at all being visible was an automatic distaste?

All Play and No Work: 06-20

dog-jumping-in-air

Ouch.

That is the word to describe this week. This week was a huge slap in the face about how out of shape I am, and how long I really do have to go.

Steven Prubit gave me a lot of insight at a point, great guy, and I still try and let this ring in my head “I wouldn’t push the dorsiflexion too much, be patient and work on it.” He gave me some incredible information on my injury. As well Julie Keen and Jonathan Fass. All fantastic on helping me through my injury issues. It might have seemed like minor help, and a few emails, but it was enough to assure me I was going in right/wrong directions. It gave me a better place to look. A big thanks to them. Defining Bulky, Once and For All

bulky-woman

(I wasn’t going to write an introduction to this article, but it hit me that there is no way I can get around it, due to the nature of the content below. Before you read this article, you need to understand that no “look” or body type that you desire to carry is wrong. This article is not about knocking the “skinny girl” or “bulky lifters.” The purpose of this article is to, finally, provide a definition of what the average population believes to be bulky.  What you choose from there is your personal journey.)

In 1909, in New York, there was a women only weight lifting group. They met in private in a rundown gym after closing hours. The janitor would let them in, and they would train with tremendous intensity and passion. They would leave and return to their families and husbands, never saying a word about what they did in their off time.

It is no secret, in 1909, that weight lifting for women was not only unpopular, but severely looked down upon by society.

100 years later, and the world has new (and not so new) perspectives. Continue Reading…

Project: All Play No Work-The Workouts

Workout-elephants

Like I stated in my earlier post I am going to be following a specific training program. I would log it here but mixed with normal content that might make it multiple posts a day. I might give it a shot and see how it goes. I can put the log posts before the main content?

Don’t you love typing outloud posts?

Here is the program. It may seem like a lot but there are a few reasons for that. Before you shout “overtraining” at me or think I am nuts, let me explain.

Point 1: Recovery takes more effort

You can’t just decide to jump back in where you left off. Also when doing more mobility and flex work you can get in more frequency.

Point 2: The dancing isn’t that physically draining and is broken up

I am not hitting at 2 hour sessions here. They are specific focus sessions of movements and then some minimal freestyle work afterward.  Mostly the hardest part is going to be on my leg and it is how I treat myself before and afterwards that will help make that less of an issue.

Point 3: 2 Hours a day

I gained two hours a day recently and I plan on filling as much as I can of it with training and bettering my body/technique. Continue Reading…
