WTF Can I Eat?
(The above video is a satire meant for entertainment and to drop my knowledge of the movie Maximum Overdrive. If you don’t have a sense of humor, don’t watch it. There is a F-bomb; it may not be work safe or suitable for children.)
Lately, a lot of writers have come to me to validate (or discredit) a lot of nutritional information. Leading market publications have asked me to examine the claims against everything from fruit protein powder to just downright fruit. This is mostly because I am vocal about nutritional scare tactics and “research” used to ward off certain foods. My perspective is always one of logical and scientific objection, not fear and paranoia. While everyone has a bias on some level, I do try to find the balance and see all sides of things.
Did You Know?
1. I don’t hate the Paleo diet, I just don’t agree with the technical term or religious dogma that surrounds it.

Personal Friday (Rants) – Organic Food Store Raids
It’s not a secret I have been somewhat against authority in my past. As I have aged, maybe I have lost my cool. Perhaps I see there are two sides to the fence. Whichever it is, there is an argument going around lately I find to be pretty interesting. You don’t have to pick sides, but you do need to think about both sides logically. Continue Reading…

Lose 8, Gain 8: The Diet Stand Still?
Want to listen to this post in audio? This is a BlogCast! You can go and download this episode at itunes here. The Rss/Download will be up later this evening.
Question:
Is it possible to lose 8lbs and then gain 8lbs right back and be in a stand still? The same questions can be applied for smaller numbers like 5lbs or 3lbs pounds. How can this be?
The Answer:
This is one of my highest asked questions via email or on the forums. Directly or indirectly, this is a huge topic for most, but especially for women. Women are more concerned with physical number change and less likely to have successful recomps without very specific attention. Though most fitness professionals will not tell you, body recomposition is much harder for women than it is for men. This is taking into account both physical and mental limitations. The scale always has and will be the dictator to the female’s world. As I discuss in the two part series called “Science of Scale Fluctuations Pt1 and Pt2” there are many reasons for an erratic or frozen scale. I encourage you to read the article in full. Does Age Hinder Weight Loss And Transformation?
There are all types of myths in regards to aging and weight loss. Everything from the “freshman 15” to someone saying “if only I could eat the way I used to when I was 20.” This isn’t only held to diet. The short answer? Yes, of course it does. The long answer is more complex and detailed. Continue Reading…
