There are degrees of aggression to this type of genre and I tend to lend myself towards a more “gentle” side. What I mean is I don’t intend to actually do my mother in or scare the s**t out of her. Not all hardcore music is about anti-religion or anti-mom. For that matter “mom didn’t love me music” doesn’t have to live only in drop-d tuning and the need for soothing throat herbal tea after shows. The songs listed below cover a wide range from DC hardcore to a flopping goldfish (which lived according to VH1′s Pop Up Video).
1. Living Color – Cult of Personality
2. Boy sets fire – Across five years
3. Falling Forward – Character
4. Nine Inch Nails – Head Like A Hole

Finally some of my stuff is represented. I need metal Leigh, where is the METAL!!!!!!
You know I am not a big metal head. I can appreciate some don’t get me wrong but I get into more Hardcore than metal.
Now this is a playlist i can appreciate! Thanks for sharing!
Very welcome.
Cult of Personality is one of my all time faves (and is actually on one of my favorite soundtracks-”Say Anything.”-which also introduces me to Joe Satriani) I am a child of the 80′s, I cannot lie.
Good stuff!
When I was a kid I use to do the ..
I’m (head jerk sideways)
the (head jerk sideways)
cult (head jerk sideways)
of (head jerk sideways)
personality (head jerk sideways)
And then breakdown a serious headbang after the “ask not what your country can do for you part” in our elementary school library to my walkman on breaks. They weren’t happy.
i can not believe you dont have any Alanis M. on here with a title like that…
I thought for sure as soon as I read it that she would have a at least one song, of course i guess hers are more….MY dad didnt love me……….
I would say hers were more “my exboyfriend didn’t love me and I want to f**K you up but then light an incense afterwards.” I could make that list if you want
I have seen her twice though, once in NYC and they were both good shows.
Awesome song list. I listen to mostly hip-hop when I workout, but something very hardcore about listening to At the Drive-In and Rollins. Rock on! Did you ever get into Fugazi or anything in the DC scene thereafter? Dischord label?
Absolutly. Embrace (band I listed above) is on discord. Rites of spring and minor threat. All the original so called “emo” bands. Which is why I still get a kick out the Fall out Boy being declared so. That is quite a journey between the too.
This is awesome Leigh! I haven’t heard One Armed Scissor in years and I never saw the video. Tool – H. is a favorite too.
Yeah when I made the list I hadn’t listen to the At the Drive in song in a little while and it brought it back some.
Leigh, you been peeking inside my iPod? It’s like you just pulled my playlist out and posted it online!
Maybe the next list should be a stalk edition?
Boy Sets Fire? Been listening to them for years and people thought I was crazy. Good stuff Leigh. I suggest adding a little Alexisonfire, Bullet For My Valentine or Breaking Benjamin. Good list though, all good songs.
Crazy for Boy Sets Fire? Punks is what they are.
