Hey Leigh I couldn’t fiure out how to buy the No Gym thing. Am I missing something? I went to the page but nada.
Hey Leigh – have you checked out Matt Perryman’s (PMDL/PowerManDL for those who don’t know) new e-book? He’s putting it out for free….now THAT is underpricing it (tremendously) in my opinion! I hope you don’t mind if I put a link in for it….. Ampedtraining.com
Matt- Yeah little tricky I guess. This is the image button. Click on that. http://www.nogymnecessary.com/images/Large-Order-Button.gif
Red-Thanks for the heads up. While I am sure it will be a while till I get a chance to read it, I am sure it will be top notch. I will make sure to give a shot out about it.
Here is the direct link for anyone reading.

The best way to lose weight over a long period of time is to eat six meals per day balanced with slow burning carbs, lean protein, and healthy fats.
Great podcast, Leigh. I listened to it while taking the dog for her walk this morning. Sometimes it is good to go back to the basics, as hard it might be to sit (walk?) through patiently. I’m jealous of your treadmill desk–one day I hope to have such a thing. Good advice on the tricky relationship issue. It struck a chord with me because even though I lost the weight years ago, I still wasn’t happy with my body, and that definitely impacted my relationship in a negative way. It just goes to show it really ISN’T about the weight, it is about personal contentment and being okay in your skin, overweight or not.
The thing that is hard to remember is that we all make those choices everyday–are we going to be happy with ourselves, or not? Are we going to accept our decision to be this way, or are we going to embrace the change?
I’m behind on podcasts; that’s what happens when I go out of town! I can’t wait to listen, though!
Maybe I can pioneer a listener/ subscriber weekend gift to selves: Charlie Mars’s “Like a Bird, Like a Plane”. Entire album is fantastic but good samples are ‘Listen to the Darkside’ and ‘Banging Down Your Door’.
Leigh,
Great discussion about being happy with yourself, and whether to accept yourself or change (in the question about the girlfriend). You really articulated something I had tried (and failed) to explain to someone else recently.
P.S. I love tacos! Glad to hear you say they can be healthy.
I hear ya Sinead on being out of town and getting behind!!
Great podcast (yet again)!
Leigh, you say you are’nt the biggest fan of HIIT (for everyone/fat loss/) but you do like “regular” intervals – could you explore this a little more with recommendations of what you do or what you like your clients to do? I’d like to incorporate just regular ones but would like to hear or read a blog post about it since all I ever hear the accolades of is HIIT. I am guessing regular intervals aren’t as hard on the body (for those with hormone issues or in deficit).
Also, along the same lines, what is your take on advice from people like Holly Rigsby and others who totally are against steady state cardio? I go to her blog and on Twitter and she says only 15 minutes of HIIT training is enough. I get so confused with all the advice floating!! Sorry for the question overload here, but your podcast made me think of it.
Great other advice as well – and I am so glad about Body By Eats. I hope I can get in on the training!!!
Why should I buy Virgil No Gym system when I can go outside an climb a tree.
Here is to climbing trees.
Great podcast Leigh! I would love to get in on the online training with you, that is so exciting. How many people are you going to take?
Missy:
15 minutes of HIIT could be enough… but you’re going to rely even more upon diet because that 200 calorie (if you’re lucky) HIIT session sure isn’t going to afford you nearly the diet flexibility that longer sessions will…
15 minute HIIT – 200 calories (maybe)
30 minutes aerobic intervals plus another 30 minutes moderate intensity work – 600, maybe 800 calories on a good day.
One of these contributes quite a bit more to calorie deficit, which gives dieters more flexibility with food. It also leaves muscles and joints feeling up to the task of doing it every day even on top of resistance training, which means even more deficit. You could also stretch it to two hours instead of just one, or do it multiple times throughout the day because it’s not as taxing – which all adds up to even more deficit.
In the end, it still comes down to diet so HIIT vs steady state is really a non-issue, but people who hate dieting and want more flexibility in food choices are doing themselves a disservice by choosing HIIT over SS – no reason they can’t use BOTH though, and create even more deficit.
Frank-Thank you Frank, that was brilliant work there. Added was the spamming of your website. Brilliant.
Anna-I think for each person it is about their limitations and fears. If you believe or blame your weight for holding you back from doing something but then find that it wasn’t that afterall, you still have nothing left to blame.
The weight can play a role, but it is still up to you to make the change happen.
Take dating for example. You can be hot, funny, and marriage material, but if you never go out and meet anyone, it isn’t going to change your status from single to married just because you have the goods.
Having the dream is one thing. Having the goods is another. Doing something with the both of them, that is a hard reality. This is on small or big levels. It can be just simple independence or it can be traveling across the globe.
What is it that you want to acheive BECAUSE of the weight loss. There is your answer.
Sinead-What are you doing having a life, children and all that neglecting me?
Chris- I expect weekly updates. *Subscribed*
Paprika-Best reader name ever by the way. PS Tacos are da shiz
Missy-I will be writing more on the subject soon and you can choose what to run with from there.
James-Hope you don’t get a splinter
Emily-Right now I am not sure. I can assure you it wont be more than 10-15ish for the high end. Assesments and consults though I will be able to do more.
Hey Leigh, great podcast! I listened while doing my non-aggressive cardio on the treadmill.. I may have been walking a little faster than you
I wish I’d known about that 2 week crash – I bought FLTS mid June and started applying the principles — first week of July I had some serious fatigue. I just wanted to lay my head on the desk at work one day. I’m now having the extreme hungries at regular intervals and insomnia, but knowing that it is part of the process is helping me deal. I’m down 6 lbs BTW and thrilled to pieces! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
LOL Leigh–just trying to soak up some time with my family before Maggie starts Kindergarten in a month and we’re not as free to hit the road for a 4 hr road trip.
I should be around for a while now.
