This is going to be pretty different from my normal posts, but perhaps one of the most important ones I have put up. I don’t technically ask a lot of my readers or people who stop by this blog. This time, I ask you to take a few minutes today and devote it to this post and the people in it. I wont fill up this post with too much of my words because I want to showcase the words of others. What I do have to say, is pretty simple.
I was up late last night and received a link to the web series “Often Awesome.” The series follows Timothy LaFollette’s (30) journey and his terminal battle with ALS. Tim and his new wife, Kaylan don’t have much more time left together and have decided to not only spend it with each other, but with the world. They have choose to be a voice for hope, change, and love for not only the people personally affected with ALS, but people in general.
It isn’t just them either, but the team of people and friends who have come together to help make this process something special – something that maybe makes the heartache of losing such a wonderful friend a little bit easier. It’s evident everywhere, even in their t-shirts that say “Putting the Team in Terminal!” These people remind you what living is all about. They remind you that humans, are often awesome.
Take something from this and be thankful for what you have. Be thankful for the chance to change things you can change.
The Episodes
There are 20 episodes all total right now. I am putting two below that, for whatever reason, struck a chord with me the most. I think the sheer love and coming together of so many people to do good is…inspiring of humanity.
What You Can Do For Me, Right Now? Often Awesome Contest?
1. Please take 5 secs and join Often Awesome on Facebook.
2. Then take 5 more secs and post this (or your own variation) on your facebook wall – “People ARE awesome. Please join this group and give a voice to ALS and REPOST! ==> http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=80514396190&ref=ts ”
3. That’s it! OR if you want a free gift for doing so, see below.
4. Head over to my facebook wall and put “awesome” to let me know you posted about and joined their group.
5. I will personally message you with a list of cookbooks and bonus downloads. You will get to choose one of anything you want from this list.
6. Once you choose what you want, I will send it to you instantly.
7. One person will be chosen out of everyone and receive everything I have ever done and a custom program for
themselves or a loved one.
8. That’s really it!
What If I Don’t Have a Facebook?
You do WHATEVER you want to do to get the word out. Twitter, your email, a blog, or leave a comment on their blog and let them know you care. Do one or do all! Getting the word out is the most important thing.
I am going to keep this up until Monday. Please do everything you can to spread the word. If you know someone that has a larger audience, encourage them to talk about it. It’s small things to begin a movement and how great would that be for them to see that take place. You have to know what this can do for Tim and his friends and family during this time. Also, please think about donating. Every little bit helps.

awesome
Wow, what an inspiration. This is heartbreaking, but so beautiful.
Added and awesome.
I hope to dive into all of these over the next couple of days. Maybe I can do something since I am in GSO?
Yes, truly awesome. I think we could all appreciate a reminder of what is really important in life. Obsessing over body image just seems so trivial now.
Awesome
Thanks Leigh, my Mum in NZ is suffering from a form of this.
I’m currently on a self-imposed Facebook ban, so I just emailed a bunch of people about this
Awesome!
Can’t do Facebook…not even for this. But I love that you did this, Leigh, and have commented and donated. I’ll be sending this on to friends. I have one doing the ALS Walk in Milwaukee next month. His brother-in-law has ALS and I’m sure he’d be interested in Tim’s story.
Nancy, I have a couple of friends that are also planning on walking in that in Milwaukee! Good luck to you!
Did it. I know/knew a few people with ALS and it is just heart-breaking
Done. You rock, Leigh.
I love his spirit.
I’m touched that you made such a huge effort to support this couple. It’s really saddening that so many people just complain about their problems in life and don’t realize that millions of others would love to trade problems and are much more unfortunate than they are. I have retreated your article and, though I can’t share it on Facebook as my profile is kept visible to myself only, I have sent emails out to everyone I know. Thank you for setting an example for us to follow in bettering the community and showing us that we should be thankful for the fortunes that we have been afforded.

Thanks for posting this Leigh. It’s a great message to get out, to make people more aware of ALS, but also so sad. I’ll be sending this to my friends via email – I don’t do facebook.
Thanks for posting this. I lost a friend to ALS many years ago and it was pure torture to watch the progression of the disease. I don’t do facebook or twitter, but email will pass this along to friends.
Awesome!
