I figured that you have your hands full for the next 3 days at least with everything I gave you yesterday. Today is a good ole fashion web gossip day.
3 Steps from Oprah
Being that close to Oprah can change some people, but not me. No, I am still grounded from my encounter with Oprah. It might be because my 3 steps were digital, but that is a small detail.

#8 on Itunes Health Podcasts. Guess I have all of you to thank. It is all because of that sexy cover isn’t it?
Alan Aragon VS Taubes
Alan Aragon just released his latest research review.
In my opinion they keep getting better and better. Below is a excerpt from the editors cut “Taubes versus science.” In it Alan hits at a lot of the flaws and fallacy of Taubes work of recent. I highly recommend getting AARR if you haven’t already. Fantastic stuff.
It’s hard to tell if Taubes is wording this statement in such a way to frivolously stir the pot of controversy, or if he genuinely believes this. If sloth and gluttony are not factors in obesity, then what is? -Alan Aragon
Dangerous Ideas
Jamie Hale started up a new blog and already dove in on the tough topics. If you are interested in critical thinking and skepticism, check it out. Let me warn you that this isn’t for everyone or the easily offended. There is discussion of religion, and breaking through belief systems that some might find uneasy to read/discuss.
For the record I personally don’t talk about two things publicly; religion, and what happens in my bedroom at night. Keeps things easy.
We have lift off
The launch of the blog/podcast went pretty good. Only a few hiccups. 2000+ manuals/audios got downloaded in a matter of 24 hours. Because of that obviously some people ran into technical problems. If you did not get your manual try again. They were not damaged, just a too many “hands” on them at one time. You can also log into the “subscribers only” section and get it there as well.
Song of the Post
I got so used to being able to give a song of the day on FLzine I kind of missed it. It hit me that I have my own site and I can do whatever the hell I want. So I am going to start having a song of the post.
*note all songs will only be streamed for 1 day *

Update IE6

Congrats on the podcast Leigh! Cool song too.
That IE6 error message is hilarious.
Leigh,
You are two spots below Oprah, but you are ahead of “sex is fun”. That’s an accomplishment!!!
Always loved the song of the day on Flzine, glad you kept it
Still working my way through yesterdays podcasts – I don’t know how people listen to talking stuff when working out (I need music) but I love to listen when I’m walking and doing the washing up – they make chores much more enjoyable! And loving the whole “ask Leigh” concept
great stuff – I can’t imagine how proud you must be feeling!
Girl I went this morning, now that I am back, and rated you a 5 star and left a review on Itunes. I had to use my son’s account so I am “Mercenary” or something – but I identify myself!!
Anyhow, thanks for the heads up on Aragon vs Taubes. I think we already know who wins!!. Those discussions are interesting reads.
Hi Leigh!
Congrats on the new site and climbing the charts!
For anyone on the fence about subscribing to the Alan Aragon Research Review – this last instalment is sheer brilliance.
OMG Leigh, I was accessing the site from work yesterday and I got that IE6 pop-up message and I about hit the floor! I was like “who the heck cares if my work is out-of-date” haha. I won’t hold it against you now =)
Love the gossipy post!
Congrats on being right up there with Oprah! We all know you’re better than Oprah, but the rest of the world will slowly be convinced, too!
My favorite Leigh typo so far: “Jamie Hale tarted up a new blog.”
Oh, Jaime Hale…that tart.
Also–so glad to see your new site up and running! The new podcast is great, and I’m glad that we’ll be hearing more from you.
uh, he’s totally right about IE6. No reason to support that crap. :-p
Hey Leigh,
I see that being that close to Oprah has a lot of advantages!
Cannot wait to rub shoulder with Queen Oprah one day soon!
Congratulations again!!!!
Pfft go ahead and take sides with the IE rebel. Traitors.
that man that talks when you sign up is friggin creepy and needs to not do that.
There’s a man that talks? see what I miss by having my sound off?!
Yeah I have to agree he is pretty creepy. it scared the crap out of me when I tested it.
I am very sad as I am no longer beating “Sex is fun” now.
Oh and Sinead we can never say publicly that I am better than Oprah for the gods might hear it and shut me down. Do not speak against her holiness.
oh yeah, I forgot that little rule. But still…
I think the message is funny, but I would hate it if visitors to my site got that kind of message because they don’t know what is going on. Especially a site about diet and training. Not exactly a tech savy crew!
I don’t like the arrogance implied in the popup, but I totally understand the sentiment behind it. IE6 just will not render valid code properly in more complicated themes like yours.
Firefox will, and so will Opera and Safari, etc., but if you want IE6 to work on your site, you need a much simpler theme — or you need to pay somebody to write lots of hacks.
For years web developers used hacks to prop up IE6, but each update (IE7, IE8) breaks some of the hacks, and you have to go back and fix them and… I guess that means more money for web designers, but still.
In fact, to use a fitness metaphor, IE6 hails from the days when being thin was considered more beautiful than having muscles.
Just as you would “hate” a fitness regimen that produced stick-like arms and call them beautiful, your theme designer hates the way IE6 thumbs its nose at valid code.
The themes created with standards-compliant code are the ones that have beautiful bodies without cheating: they don’t use lipo, fad diets, or magic pills.
And as they grow older or are exposed to stress, they’re more likely to stay beautiful, unlike the bodies who got beautiful by “cheating”.
