About a week ago, I asked the readers and subscribers of Leighpeele.com to take a survey. The results of this survey led to a fascinating read. In fact, I would wager it is rare that large level research organizations get this targeted of survey takers for their questions. The results of this survey are likely more accurate than a lot of things you have been reading in the news.

About The Survey Participants

The survey reached 2019 participants before I closed it. I did this because I had limited time to read through responses and analyze results. It takes longer than you would think to do something like that and I have spent a total of 30+ hours looking over everything (with an assistant) before writing down my thoughts and findings.

While my blog and podcast have a certain level of popularity, I wouldn’t consider myself mainstream. If you are reading my blog you are somewhat apart of an “indie” blog readership. If you found me through google or word of mouth it is usually by very specific terms. By the time you get to me you know something more than general knowledge in regards to training and body composition.

The reason I bring all this up is because the people that took this survey are way more invested into health and fitness than someone you stop in the mall and ask if you can have a few minutes of your time. Most popular polls that end up in the media or “studies” are based upon more random selections of people. People who may or may not be invested in diet, training, and change.

My people say they really want to change their bodies. My people are claiming to have already invested effort into training and diet. My people are being proactive about changing there lives and education. My survey is unique.

How I analyzed the survey

The survey was anonymous in the aspect of name and location. However, I got to look at the age, gender, submitted training levels, goals, ratings, and personal essays of each individual person. I first analyzed the persons answers and what it spoke about their personal experiences. I then put it in groupings with those of similar ages, genders, and training levels. For example, I looked at the occurrence of women between the ages of 25-35 who trained more than 4 days a week who were happy with their results and their level of training experience.

The above is just touching on the iceberg of the variations we worked with using the statistics. With this survey I could write a book to be honest. Figuring out where I am going to focus on is the hardest part. Do I talk about expectations? Do I talk about lifestyle? Do I talk about results vs effort? Is it true effort or perceived effort? You can see I could go on and on from here. For now, I am going to focus on two main aspects for conversation due to the results I have at hand. You will find out what in the upcoming articles over the next few days.

Obvious (too me) I didn’t anticipate such a response. You may remember that I offered up some goodies. The goodies have arrived.
